<p style="text-align: left;"><b>What’s inspiring you creatively right now? What are you reading, watching, listening to, or collecting?</b></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">I’m inspired by connection: How design can bridge cultures, materials, and people. <a href="https://www.nadadebs.com/en/studio" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">My work</a> has always lived between worlds, and I’m interested in how these intersections create something new yet familiar. I’ve been watching a lot of films: they’re both an escape but also a source of inspiration, especially through set design, color, and atmosphere. I’m also reading books by Indian female authors, drawn to stories of women growing up in Asia. And I naturally collect objects with a handmade quality, pieces that carry a sense of craft and human touch.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><b>Are there any artists or creators you’ve been especially inspired by lately?</b></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Lately, I’ve been looking more towards the East, exploring craft traditions from Uzbekistan, Afghanistan to Pakistan, India, and Japan, where I grew up. Rather than specific artists, I’m more inspired by the processes themselves: the techniques, the gestures, and the cultural depth behind them.</p>


<p style="text-align: left;">Lebanese designer Nada Debs is a multi-disciplinary artist, known for distilling culture and craftsmanship in works that are tactile, geometric, and emotional. Her recent Transcendence tile collection for Ann Sacks and <a href="/content/annsacks/us/en/inspiration/kohler-wastelab.html" target="_self" rel="noopener noreferrer">Kohler WasteLAB</a>, showcases this approach through her use of sustainable materials, handcrafted into tiles of simple, yet intricate beauty. With the release of two new colors in this bestselling collection, Amber and Emerald, we caught up with Ms. Debs to learn more about what fuels her creative inspiration.</p>


<h2 style="text-align: left;">Transcendence by Kohler WasteLAB</h2>
<p style="text-align: left;"><b>What does it mean to you to create beauty from material that would otherwise be waste?</b></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">It’s about redefining value. Transforming overlooked material into something people live with and connect through is powerful. With Transcendence, using recycled materials from <a href="/content/annsacks/us/en/inspiration/kohler-wastelab.html" target="_self" rel="noopener noreferrer">WasteLAB</a>, this becomes a story of renewal, where beauty carries meaning beyond aesthetics.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><b>This eco-friendly tile collection draws from the architecture and rituals of traditional hammams. How did those ideas shape the feeling and form of this collection?</b></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">The hammam is both a cultural and social space, one of ritual, transition, and shared experience. Its architectural language, domes, arches, and the play of light, inspired the geometry and rhythm of the tiles. Like moving through a hammam, the repetition creates a quiet, meditative flow across surfaces. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfG0nA4hGfo" target="_blank">The tiles are called Transcendence</a>, through the rhythm of the layered arches, we are transcending into the spiritual world.</p>


<p><b>Amber and Emerald bring new dimensions to the Transcendence palette. What emotions or stories do these new hues introduce?</b></p>
<p>Amber brings warmth and familiarity, grounded, almost like memory. It is the color close to earth as opposed to the blues of the sea of the first palettes. Emerald introduces freshness and vitality, evoking nature and natural greens.</p>


<h2 style="text-align: left;">What’s Next?</h2>
<p style="text-align: left;">Ms. Debs is exploring how recycled material tiles can extend beyond surfaces into furniture and objects. She is also interested in working with recycled paper to create wall tiles and imagining entire spaces shaped by this material:</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">“I’m drawn to immersive environments where material, craft, and architecture come together, where design becomes an experience.”</p>
