From the pillowed forms of <a href="/content/annsacks/us/en/ceramic/collections/made-billow-by-kelly-wearstler.html" target="_self" rel="noopener noreferrer">Billow</a> to the optical geometry of <a href="/content/annsacks/us/en/stone/collections/liaison-by-kelly-wearstler.html" target="_self" rel="noopener noreferrer">Liaison</a>, each design challenges convention—transforming hard surfaces into tactile experiences that invite touch and evoke emotion. Inspired by everything from the allure of vintage clothing to the quiet complexity of natural stone, Wearstler’s work blurs the line between architecture and art. Through handcrafted processes and a reverence for imperfection, these collections celebrate the soulful beauty of texture, light, and form.</p>

The MADE Factory</h2>
<p style="text-align: left;"><b>Why did you choose to partner with MADE by Ann Sacks factory and what makes their production process so distinct?</b><br>
<br>
KW: They get it. <a href="/content/annsacks/us/en/inspiration/made-by-ann-sacks.html" target="_self" rel="noopener noreferrer">MADE</a> doesn't try to make everything perfect and uniform — they understand that the irregularities are where the soul lives. Their artisans know how to let the material do what it wants to do while still guiding the process. It's this beautiful dance between control and surrender.<br>
<br>
Every piece carries the story of how it was made. You can see the hand in it — the way the glaze flows, the subtle differences in how each tile catches light. That's not something you can fake or mass-produce. It's about honoring the process, letting the fire and the clay have their say. Mass production kills that conversation between material and maker.</p>


<h2 style="text-align: left;">Geometry and Depth:<br>

<p style="text-align: left;"><b>How do these new patterns evolve the Liaison Collection’s visual language?</b><br>
<br>
KW: The <a href="/content/annsacks/us/en/blog/the-insider/kelly-wearstler-s-new-collections.html" target="_self" rel="noopener noreferrer">original Liaison</a> was about celebrating iconic forms, and these new patterns push that further into trompe-l'oeil territory. What looks like basic geometry starts creating all this visual depth and movement across the surface. It's the same architectural precision, but now with these optical effects that make flat surfaces feel three-dimensional. It's about taking those timeless patterns and making them do more, making them richer and more visually complex.</p>


<p style="text-align: left;"><b>What guided your choice of the new stone colorways?</b><br>
<br>
KW: I wanted to move away from the high contrast of the original and get into something more nuanced. These <a href="/content/annsacks/us/en/stone/collections/liaison-by-kelly-wearstler.html" target="_self" rel="noopener noreferrer">new tonal combinations</a> — the muted taupes, creams, those soft greys and warm browns — they're about subtlety. They let the geometry do the talking instead of screaming for attention through color. But they're not bland. There's depth there, complexity. Colors that get better with time, that feel richer the longer you live with them.<br>
<br>
<b>What does the travertine blend bring to a space, both visually and emotionally?</b><br>
<br>
KW: There's something grounding about working with richly veined marble — each piece carries this history, these natural patterns that took millions of years to form. The variation in the stone brings this authenticity that you can't fake, this connection to something larger than the space itself.</p>


<h2 style="text-align: left;">Texture as Invitation:<br>
MADE Billow by Kelly Wearstler</h2>
<p style="text-align: left;"><b>What was the inspiration behind MADE Billow?</b><br>
<br>
Kelly Wearstler: The whole thing started with texture. I was looking at these vintage puffy jackets and thinking about how certain surfaces just demand to be touched. There's something so satisfying about creating that same tactile invitation <a href="/content/annsacks/us/en/ceramic/collections/made-billow-by-kelly-wearstler.html" target="_self" rel="noopener noreferrer">in tile</a> — making something architectural feel unexpectedly soft and approachable. It's about bringing warmth to walls.<br>
<br>
<b>How did you gravitate towards dimensional tile texture?</b><br>
<br>
KW: It became this obsession with contradiction: &quot;How do you make something as hard as ceramic feel like tactile and responsive?&quot; I wanted to create surfaces that confuse your expectations, that make you question what you're seeing. The bulbous forms play tricks with light and shadow. It's about pushing materials beyond what they're supposed to do—and finding beauty in that defiance.<br>
<br>
<b>How do the stoneware tile glazes break on such a pillowed format?</b><br>
<br>
KW: It's completely unpredictable, which is why I love it. The reactive glazes respond to every curve and valley, creating these incredible variations in color and texture. Where the glaze pools thick, you get these deep, rich tones. Where it runs thin over the peaks, it breaks to show the clay beneath. No two tiles are exactly alike. You can't control exactly how each glaze will break, and that's the whole point. Beauty lives in those imperfections.</p>
